My house was built in 1983 and I had never updated anything in the bathroom, so this makeover is a wonderful thing for me. I hadn't planned on entering a contest, so I had to scan my "before" pictures, since I deleted the digital versions.

I replaced the floor tile and baseboards, the really ugly "banjo style" vanity (that had an extension that continued over the toilet), and the boxed fluorescent light fixture. I painted the room and the ceiling fan, added the beautiful MirrorMate frame to the mirror, and raised everything up, since the new vanity was about 6” taller than the old one. I added two 84” curtain panels that frame the tub, instead of using a one-piece shower curtain. Now the rod meets the top of the mirror, which was raised 6 inches. Raising everything up actually makes the small room seem bigger somehow. Oh, and I got a cool shower liner of which the top 1/3 is transparent, so you have privacy, but can still see through it.

I plan on remodeling the tub surround toward the end of the year. It will have the same tile as the floor, and the vanity backsplash design will continue through the whole surround area horizontally about 1/3 of the way down from the top. I just have to wait until I get more cash!

As you can see, the MirrorMate frame ties the whole look together. It coordinates with the new vanity, the switch plate covers, and the modular shelves. And it changes a plain ugly mirror into a work of art!

Awesome makeover! The color brings out the character of the room, and the mirror treatment is my absolute favorite! :)

I got some really great ideas from your makeover. I never would have thought about painting a ceiling fan...what a great cost-saving idea. And using 2 regular curtain panels instead of a shower curtain adds a formal touch, nice. I do like the way the mirror frame coordinates with the rectangular boxes you have on the wall, too. Thanks for the ideas!

Whoa! That went from bland to bold! Love the red and dark brown together. The dark accents like the fancy shelf thing on the wall and the frame around the mirror. The long curtains really add height to the room.... which is always good:) Very nice job! Biiiig improvement! :o

Thanks! You can't tell from the picture, but I used two different kinds of spray paint on the fan. I used a satin-finish brown on all the metal, and used a hammered-finish taupe on the wood blades. Using two slightly different colors with different finishes really helped make it look like a new fan, rather than a repainted one! And the hammered-finish looks really cool on the blades.

Just love your makeover! I have the same tile border in my bathroom and you've inspired me to make some changes! Can you tell me the style and color of the mirror frame you chose? Thanksw!
