There is an electrical outlet on my 74" x 42" bathroom mirror. There is an electrical outlet in the right lower corner. The cover plate is also made of mirror and is 2 7/8" from the bottom and 1 7/8" from the right side. How can I use MirrorMate on that situation. I have thought of removing the switch plate and cutting it down to replace after the MirrorMate frame is in place. Any other suggestions. Also, how can I get the cover plate off the mirror. Also, the frame I like best is your widest, and it would actually cover part of the outlets. And there is no room to move the frame farther to the right. Thanks for any help you can give.

Great question Jane.

You say there is no room to move the frame to the right, so I assume you have 0 clearance on the right? If that is the case, then no matter what frame style you choose, you will have to remove the plate. If you choose our thinnest style (at 2" wide) and you have 0 clearance you would still need at least 2" between the edge of the mirror and your plate or outlet.

In the case of a larger frame, you would need even more. It sounds like the style you chose is one of the larger ones and covers the outlet anyway. The only thing you can do is remove the plate and have part of the outlet covered, and just not use that outlet, or you could have a handyman cut a notch into the frame where the outlet is. This would not look very good in my opinion, as the cut away portion of the frame would then be a different color from the rest.

So basically the options are to cover the outlet, or to choose one of our thinnest styles and remove the plate (I suggest the later). For tips on removing the plate, you could use this blog entry which details removing mirrored trim from a mirror:

Let me know what you choose to do, and if you have any more questions!
